Pray for Pakistan

Melting glaciers and record monsoon rains have killed nearly 1,400 people and displaced nearly 30 million in Pakistan. At one point, nearly one third of Pakistan was submerged by the floods, causing extensive damage to critical infrastructure like roads and railways.

Peoples’ homes were destroyed, their livestock were killed, and their crops were buried under silt left from the receding waters. In some places, the water may not recede fully for months, making it challenging for an already struggling economy to rebound.

Pakistan, a country of 242 million people, is home to few Christians. Joshua Project estimates that somewhere between 1-3% people are committed Christians. Nearly 828 of Pakistan’s 835 people groups are considered “unreached” by the gospel.

Christians in Pakistan are also generally economically disadvantaged vs. the non-Christian majority and are more likely to live on the margin. This is particularly challenging at a time when the prices of everyday necessities are about 30% more expensive.

Our church family is connected to a community of about 2,000 Christian entrepreneurs in Pakistan, who we are walking alongside in prayer and support. Most of them live in urban centers, which were generally less affected by the flooding. The Pak Mission Society is in full relief mode, intending to raise about $1.85M to support 10,000 families for two months.

Devastating times of natural disaster bring with them confusion and questions about who God is and why such destruction is allowed to happen.

In this time, we draw near to our Pakistani brothers and sisters and pray for restoration, hope, and peace in their country.

  1. We pray for the physical, emotional, and spiritual lives of the tens of millions of people who have been directly affected by the flooding.

  2. We pray that Jesus would meet them in their pain and struggles and that his name would be glorified during the response to such dire circumstances.

  3. Lastly we pray that the response of government and military officials would bring peace and hasten the speed of the recovery.

Join us in praying for Pakistan.
